BK - This and That is a website run by an Ascot resident. This site contains articles on various subjects, including growing on allotments, histories of allotments and of cultivation; the summer festivals in Edinburgh  and computer performance. There are articles by BK, as well  many links to other people's articles, - BK is a firm believer in the original ethos of the Internet, which is to share information. Please click on the photos to enlarge them  Ascot Inner Wheel  celebrated its 50th birthday in 2013, and is a member of the Association of Inner Wheel Clubs which are part of the family of Rotary.

They meet monthly on the fourth Wednesday evening at Mill Ride Golf Club, in Ascot, to enjoy dinner and often, a speaker or presentation. If there is a fifth Wednesday in the month, we join with Ascot Rotary for dinner and a speaker.

There are usually two major fund-raising events a year, together with Inner Wheel Day in January. Other events include trips to gardens, the theatre and other venues.

The three objects of Inner Wheel are very simple. They are to promote true friendship, encourage the ideals of personal service and to foster international understanding. Inner Wheel is a caring organisation, not only to its members, but also to others outside its circle.

Friendship is the core of all that is done and achieved by members of Inner Wheel. Wherever there is an Inner Wheel Club, no matter in which country, you are made very welcome. Friendship and fun abounds as members work together to help others less fortunate than themselves, not only in this country, but overseas.

Membership is open to all women who share in our ideals of service and friendship. We offer a valuable outlet for women of like mind who are searching for a way to provide voluntary service.

ASPEN, the Ascot Peace Education Network, began meeting prior to this country’s last conflict, euphemistically termed by the UK media Gulf War 2. It has been constituted as an independent voluntary organisation. It aims to build upon the tremendous concern felt by everyone about the war in Iraq. People worldwide, particularly the young, have woken up with a renewed intention to engage In peace building, by resolving conflict, and the group aims to actively promote peace and understanding through educational visits to schools, informed debates, entertaining neighbours with hospitality teas or lunches so improving relationships where we live.  The group meets formally every quarter and plans to invite experienced peace activists to inspire us. Strictly speaking it is not a Christian only group although many of its members worship at All Saints Church. It is not a political organisation only humanitarian. If you wish to join you will be most welcome. Contact Mrs. A Yarwood 01344- 621167.

The Berks, Bucks & Oxon Wildlife Trust (BBOWT) is one of 47 Wildlife Trusts working across the UK to achieve the shared aim of securing a better future for wildlife.

BBOWT was founded in 1959 (as the Berks, Bucks & Oxon Naturalist Trust -  BBONT) by local ecologists who could see the extent of harm being done to the wonderfully rich natural environment of the three counties. For over 50 years we have worked with local people to make Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire richer in wildlife.

BBOWT currently has about 54,000 members and more than 1,300 active volunteers. It is thanks to our members and volunteers that we are able to keep going - we do not receive any core governmental funding. Our income comes from a range of sources including grants, legacies, business support and charitable trusts donations, but most important of all are our membership subscriptions......

LET’S SHATTER TWO MYTHS ... YOU DON’T NEED TO HAVE BERKSHIRE ANCESTORS TO BENEFIT... Many with no local ancestors draw actively on society products and services.... AND YOU DON’T NEED TO LIVE IN BERKSHIRE Plenty of members live far beyond its borders, some live overseas.
The society delivers resources and activities to meet the needs of people like you; people researching into families across the UK and overseas (and in Berkshire too). Would these services be useful in your research?

ASCOT ORGAN and KEYBOARD CLUB is a friendly club that meets monthly. It holds a mixture of professional and amateur nights and the occasional charity evening. This not only raises money for good causes, but also promotes the club. The club tries to give younger artistes just starting on the circuit a chance as well as the old favourites. As you will see from our concert diary they have a good selection of top artistes covering many styles of music. Refreshments are included in the entrance fee so why not go along and hear some of the best professional organists play - or just listen to some of the local talent you didn't know existed!

Quite a few of our members have their own organs or keyboards. All try to help each other where possible, and encourage each other to play at our amateur evenings, when players can bring along their own instruments (organs by prior arrangement with the Chairman) or play the club organ, a Technics GA1. A light hearted competition is held annually and a cup presented to the most improved player. The club is always glad to welcome amateur players to show off their talents. Their family, friends and all those wishing to have an evening of live music in friendly surroundings are also welcome at all meetings. This includes members of other clubs who are visiting the area.

In July the club holds a summer social with a fish & chip supper and a very relaxed atmosphere. This gives members who have not played before the chance to "have-a-go" with less pressure.

Sadly, long-standing and very popular Club Chairman, Tony Reed, died in March 2014.  His widow, Anne Reed, has been asked to take over as Chairman  and she has taken up the post,  working hard to continue the Club's reputation as one of the friendliest and welcoming  in the country.

The club usually meets on the third Friday of the month at 8pm. Subscription: £10; Concerts: Members admission: £5.00 , Visitors admission: £6.00 . Amateur Nights: Members: £3,  Visitors : £4.

Windsor SpeakersEveryone is a bit afraid of speaking in groups or in public, some just hide it better than others! Do you think it would be a good thing if you were able to speak more confidently or improve your skills?
There’s a safe place you can achieve this and learn to become a better speaker, expressing yourself more freely and feeling in control rather than the other way round.

Windsor Speakers is a ‘non-profit’ club that meets two evenings a month where members get to practice and improve their public speaking in an organised, safe and supportive environment. It’s part of the Toastmasters International organisation that has over one million members worldwide.

We have all walks of life from housewives to business people to tradesmen to students. Ranging from accomplished speakers to absolute beginners.

We meet on the 1st and 3rd Monday every month at Gardeners Hall, 213 St Leonards Road, Windsor SL4 3DR. If this is something you might be interested in then pop along one evening to take a look and see what it’s all about. You’d be welcomed.
