The Rotary Club of Ascot delivered another consignment of 100 Cuddly Toys to the Bracknell Ambulance Service this week, part sponsored by Waitrose at Sunningdale through their 'Community Matters' programme.

The Toys are placed on the ambulances in the Bracknell and Ascot area to be given to traumatised young children. This may be as a result of their being sick, injured or upset due to accident or an accident to one of their parents with the child in the ambulance. The staff give the toy to those children going through particularly difficult times.

The ambulance itself, the uniformed medical staff the possible presence of police can all lead to a very traumatic experience for a young child. The gift of a soft toys helps to redirect the child's attention away from the more serious nature of the event and help to calm the situation down. The general feedback is that the toys have been found to be very effective over the past few years that the project has been running.

The dogs, of four different designs, are dressed in 'T' shirts with the Rotary logo printed on the front and the Ambulance Service logo on the back.

Julia Kelsall of the South Central Ambulance Service says that she would like to thank the Rotary Club of Ascot for their support and their contribution to the SCAS which is much appreciated.
